Sugar or Money?

With the Mayweather-Mosley fight just few days away predictions for the fight keeps on pouring; that's normal though. Both camps even predicted a knockout victory for their own fighter.

Well, I want to share my own.. duh.

Both camps predicted a KO victory right? Well that will happen, most likely, if both will play offense like both fighters will just put it on, street-fight style (not like the past Pacquiao-Clottey fight). However, I don't think it would be a match of offense-vs-offense. Why?

Both fighters would like to win, that's an undeniable fact.

First off, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is undefeated and he would do anything to keep his record clean from defeat; and when I say anything, that includes coming up for a random blood-test for dope - Olympic style. Floyd will play defense on May 1, that's what I think, and most of his punches will be from counter-attacks. I hope he will not stay in a 'turtle-house' defense, like Clottey did against the Pacman, for there's a chance that Shane would unleash a fury of punches that may make him a human punching-bag. Oh well. If ever 'Money' wins it would be by unanimous decision.

Shane Mosley, on the other hand, would do anything to win this fight not only to prove that he is one of the best boxers in the world but even to strengthen his credibility to be in the Hall-of-Fame of boxing. Also, I think he would like to fight the pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao as well so he must win. Mosley may be 38 years old already but that doesn't mean he can't fight; he demolished Antonio Margarito the last time. He is the one I am feeling to win by KO if ever the match will not go the distance.

So, Money or Sugar? I'll go for sweetness himself, Shane Mosley.

Spotlight now is on the Mayweather-Mosley fight

2010 will definitely be a great year for boxing. With The Event just happened in Dallas, Texas where the pound-for-pound champion Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao became victorious once again in front of 51,000 boxing fans what's next for us to wait? Obviously the Mayweather-Mosley fight!

The undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. (40W-0L-25KOs) will face Sugar Shane Mosley (46W-5L-39KOs) in a welterweight bout that will surely make an impact to the boxing business. This time the spotlight will be back in Las Vegas from Dallas. There is a chance that Pacquiao will be fighting the winner of the Mayweather-Mosley fight; however, seems like the Pacman would want Mayweather more than anybody else as he had said it again during his post-fight interview against Joshua Clottey. Well, there are a lot of hopefuls.

We discussed here the last five fights of Mayweather so, next time, we'll try to review some of the last fights of Mosley.

Mayweather is upset for Pacquiao's victory!

I believe that the pound-for-pound king and WBO welterweight champion, Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao put on a good fight against Joshua Clottey during their recent fight where the Filipino pride won via a one-sided unanimous decision; the thing that made the event looks like a not-a-Pacquiao type of fight is that there was no knock-down. Seriously, a lot of people had predicted and expected that Clottey would hit the ground; it never happen. Because of this, a lot of critics are claiming that the Pacman had upset a lot of boxing fans.

Upset?

Oh c'mon! The victory itself is sweet and Pacquiao is phenomenal. Even team Clottey, I think, was not upset about the outcome of the fight; it was a privilege to fight the best boxer in the world today and make millions of dollars.

Upset? Who's upset?

There is one thing that, I think, was upset not just for the victory of Pacquiao but even with the success of The Event held in Dallas, it's Floyd Mayweather Jr. The ever boastful Floyd had talked again saying that the effect of HGH to Pacquiao is just great; Mayweather also claimed that Manny put on a boring fight. Well, I remember Mayweather Jr., days back, saying something about focusing (talking) on his next fight with Shane Mosley instead of talking about Pacquiao; he just can't stop thinking about the Pacman. He's haunted.

Well, Mayweather should do his best to win against Mosley if he wants another shot to face Pacquiao in a multi-million mega-fight. Good luck to his next bout.

Pacquiao is again victorious!

Some of my own predictions didn't happen for the fight between WBO welterweight champion and pound-for-pound superstar Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao of the Philippines against former IBF champion Joshua Clottey of Ghana; well one thing did happen, it's Pacquiao winning the fight.

I predicted that Pacquiao will finish off Clottey sometime between the 7th-10th round but the fight had, rather, ended up to the distance and will go to the scorecards. It was a one-sided victory of the Filipino pound-for-pound champion as he had won all 12 rounds. From the opening bell, Pacman outworked Clottey in every round. Pacquiao outpunched Clottey at a 3:1 clip as the Ghanian spent long periods with his guard up and seemed to be more interested in surviving than winning.

Nevertheless, Pacquiao again proved to the world that he is really the king of boxing now. Congratulations!

The Event was held in front of 50,994 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Bush in the V.I.P. at The Event

The Event will be graced by a lot of famous people. Former U.S. President George W. Bush is expected to attend the WBO welterweight title bout between Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao of the Philippines and Joshua Clottey of Ghana, according to Top Rank Promoter Bob Arum.

Bush will likely be in the VIP luxury suite with wife Laura and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. The showdown takes place at the new $1.2 billion Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas this Saturday, March 13th and will be shown on HBO pay-per-view.

The EVENT is near

Twelve days to go and yet, still, I can't wait for it to happen. The Event will definitely happen; championship fight between pound-for-pound king Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey, as I've said before, will be an exciting fight to see. Coming from the Dallas Cowboys' stadium, on the 13th of this month, who wouldn't watch? Mayweather fans?

Clottey is more than ready for Pacquiao

"We have a game plan which will give Pacquiao a lot of problems," Joshua Clottey said. Is he more than ready for his upcoming title fight against pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao?

Well, Clottey said he is in top condition for the March 13 fight at the Dallas Cowboys' stadium. "I've worked hard for weeks in Florida," the Ghana native said. He even claimed that the Pacman is not unbeatable and is worried about the size and strength advantage he got.

Just one thing Joshua, it's not over till it's done.

Will Pacquiao be victorious again?

Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao has won his last 11 fights, had achieved a record-breaking seven titles in different weight classes, has been named by the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) as 2009 fighter of the year, has been named 'fighter of the decade' also by the BWAA, had pursed millions of dollars; would there be more for the Filipino pride?

Pacquiao is set to fight Ghana native, Joshua Clottey, this coming March 13 at the Dallas Cowboy's Stadium in Texas and [definitely] a lot of people will be waiting for 'The Event'; much ado about the now 'theoretical' Pacquiao-Mayweather fight. Setting aside his political aspirations, will the Pacman be victorious against Clottey as he continue his journey to total greatness?

I have a feeling that Pacquiao will win this fight but not the easy way though. I'm not underestimating Clottey for he got the strength and stamina that could go the distance, there is also a chance that he could make my prediction wrong. Joshua might be the bigger man but Manny would have the power and speed along with stamina; he could be the last man standing on that ring.

Pacquiao will fight Mosley?

Four-time boxing trainer of the year, Freddie Roach, said that Manny Pacquiao will most likely face Shane Mosley if he defeats Floyd Mayweather on their May 2010 bout. The question will still be on whether the Pacquiao-Mayweather will ever happen whatever the results of the Pacquiao-Clottey and Mosley-Mayweather fights will be. Roach thought it will happen.

Though many people will consider that the Pacman will win against Joshua Clottey they should not underestimate the ability of the Ghana native. Clottey's last fight against Miguel Cotto was rather a disappointment to him; Cotto won via split-decision to which many critics said it should be the other way. Well the decision was final not unless there was a dirty-play proven, like the usage of illegal hand wraps.

Clottey is a very good boxer and a good person as well. He is a humble fighter not a trasher; same goes to Pacquiao. Much respect to both fighters. They will definitely put on a good fight this March 13.

If ever Mosley will defeat Mayweather, to which I can say that it could happen for he is capable of doing so, and he is going to face Pacquiao then it would definitely be a great matchup. Though Mosley may be the bigger fighter the Pacman got the power and speed. Also, this is what Shane always wanted, to fight the best of the best.

Pacquiao-Mayweather to Pacquiao-Clottey?

I had made this blog/site for the now-vanished-mega-fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr., with hopes that it would really take place. All the hope is gone now; all because of that Olympic style random blood testing proposed by the Mayweather camp. So who's to blame?

Would it be Mayweather for that 'proposal' or would it be the Pacman for not riding with it? Boxing fans and critics had their own thoughts about it. Just flush it down!

Now that the Team Pacquiao had came to a deal with Joshua Clottey and the Mayweather camp is still looking for a possible opponent I was thinking and asking myself, would I keep this blog going or would I change it to Pacquiao-Clottey?. Well by Monday will come the answer.

Golden Boy vs Top Rank

Top Rank will certainly be going live from Arlington, Texas March 13 with Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey. However rival promoter Golden Boy Promotions is threatening to go live also from the MGM Grand with Floyd Mayweather, Jr. vs. TBA.

Cowboys Stadium has a moto-cross the following weekend so it has to go on that date.

While certainly silly, this is not unprecedented in the annals of boxing and pay-per-view history.

I view this as some kind of medieval cry for help from Golden Boy to the world. I just don't know who Golden Boy appeals to anymore except for occasional challenge matches by Bernard Hopkins, Shane Mosley and other bullying tactics.

Mosley fights Andre Berto January 30 and Golden Boy has even started talking of a May fight between Mosley and Mayweather if Mosley beats Berto.

It seems like Golden Boy is just covering all its bases.

If the two companies actually do go toe to toe March 13, what's in play is who gets access to the successful HBO 24/7 series as the fight approaches. But it's probably not a deal breaker. HBO may decide to just sit it out March 13 to avoid any possible legal problems that might come its way.

While Top Rank will certainly be invited back to the MGM Grand, I doubt Golden Boy will ever be welcomed to Cowboys Stadium and many other venues will have contempt for them to say the least.

Clottey not Mayweather, for real...

It would be Joshua Clottey that Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao will be facing not Floyd Mayweather according to Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum as he had presumably closed a deal to be held in the Dallas Cowboys' Stadium on March 13 of this year.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he is thrilled to land a bout featuring Pacquiao, who is widely regarded as the top boxer in the world. And while he’s disappointed he won’t be hosting a Pacquiao fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. as he had hoped, he said he doesn’t see Pacquiao-Clottey as a consolation prize.

“This is a very significant fight and I’m truly ecstatic,” Jones told Yahoo! Sports by telephone on Sunday. “From the time we began work on the stadium, I envisioned bringing boxing here. We have a very large Hispanic fan base surrounding us and they’re very loyal boxing fans. I think they’ll be thrilled with this event.”

Jones said he considered naming the stadium Vaqueros de Cowboys, which is Spanish for Dallas Cowboys, in homage to the many Hispanics in the area.

Arum and his stepson, Top Rank president Todd duBoef, attended the Cowboys’ playoff victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday and sat with Jones as his guests in his private box.

Arum said he met former President George W. Bush at the game, who said he would attend the fight if he does not have a speaking engagement that night.

“He was excited about the fight and he said to me, ‘Who needs [Mayweather]?’ ” Arum said.

Arum said he was amazed by the new stadium, which will initially be configured to seat around 45,000. That figure can increase, he said, if there is sufficient demand. The top ticket will be $700.

The ring will be placed at what would be the 50-yard line.

Clottey not Mayweather?

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is still pushing for a mega-fight with Manny Pacquiao, but key people around Pacquiao said Friday the Filipino star fighter's focus has shifted to a replacement foe, Joshua Clottey.

"If you concede to whatever Mayweather wants, that's giving him an edge," Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach said Friday. "We're bigger than Mayweather. We don't need him. We don't work for him.

"So, the way I feel now, we'll go fight Clottey, then we'll fight the winner of [Shane] Mosley and [Andre] Berto."

Welterweight Clottey (35-3) lost a close 2009 fight to Miguel Cotto, who was subsequently defeated by Pacquiao via a 12th-round technical knockout in November.

"It'll be a tough fight, not an easy fight, but better than some of the other names that were being thrown around," Roach said.

Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum went so far as saying he expects both fighters to verbally approve contracts sent to them in the Philippines and Africa, respectively. Arum will also tour Dallas Cowboys Stadium today, saying he expects to put Pacquiao-Clottey there March 13.

Behind the scenes, however, there is still movement in the Pacquiao and Mayweather camps to try to bridge the dividing line in their negotiations over when pre-fight random blood tests for performance-enhancing drugs should stop.

Pacquiao agreed to a blood test 24 days before a Mayweather bout planned for March 13 in Las Vegas, and another sample immediately after the bout. Mayweather wants the final blood test to come 14 days before the fight. "Isn't that reasonable?" asked Mayweather promoter, Richard Schaefer.

So there is a push to pitch Mayweather's blood test plan to Pacquiao once more before he arrives back in the U.S. to begin training Monday at Roach's Hollywood gym. Roach also said, "Mayweather can still say he's OK with the 24 days, and the fight's back on, right?"

That's not the case, according to Arum. "We have moved on," he said.

Schaefer is urging Mayweather-Pacquiao talks to continue, admitting a deal needs to be struck soon because of training schedules.

Arum's response: "He wants talks to continue. Who is he going to be talking to?"
